Friday, July 4th

BOSTON: CityHallPlaza with a flag-raising, 9 a.m. Parade  at 9:15 a.m. A reading of the Declaration of Independence will take place at 9:45 a.m., followed by the Independence Day Oration at Faneuil Hall at 10:30 a.m.

DUXBURY: Parade: 2 p.m. (starts at Halls Corner and ends at DuxburyHigh School) parade awards ceremony at 4 p.m. at DuxburyMiddle School.

HALIFAX: Family Day: 10 a.m. (town hall green), (Bike decorating contest, sidewalk chalk drawing contest, pony rides, tug of war, music, entertainment, face painting)

HULL: 17th Annual Neighborhood Parade, 10 a.m. starts at Hampton Circle playground. Participants are asked to wear red, white and blue, if possible, and bring flags. For more details, call 781-925-5142.

HINGHAM: 7 a.m. Recreation Commission Road Race and the Kiwanis pancake breakfast at Hingham Common. 9 a.m, Open House at the Old Ship Meeting House, 90 Main St., Parade at 10 a.m.

PLYMOUTH: Parade at 9 a.m. (Hedge Road to Court Street, Main Street, Main Street Extension, and Water Street to Memorial Hall.) 7:30 p.m., the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at Plymouth Memorial State Park.

PLYMPTON: A special reading of the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble to the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights will happen at 9:30 a.m. on July 4th at the Gazebo on the Town Green in Plympton. Everyone is welcome to attend this reading.

QUINCY: At the AdamsNationalHistoricPark, 135 Adams St., at 11 a.m., 2 and 7 p.m., re-enact the debate that led to the passage of the Declaration of Independence at the Second Continental Congress. Attendees assume the roles of members of Congress. Free.

WHITMAN: Road race: 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, WhitmanTownPark. Ages 12 to over 50. Bike and carriage decorating: 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, lower town park, ages 14 and younger Family field day: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., TownPark. (music, face painting and several field events.) Public swimming, 1 to 5 p.m. at the town pool... For more information, call the Whitman Recreation Department at 781-618-9758.

Saturday, July 5

Rockland: Carnival on Thursday, July 5, through Sunday, July 8, high school parking lot, sponsored by Rockland Friends. Hours are 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 5 and 6; 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 7; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 8.
