Carver: Man arrested for attempted murder for weekend stabbing

Carver Police have arrested a 24-year-old Carver man in connection with a weekend stabbing incident on Center Street.

Police, in a release, said, “State Police Troopers assigned to District Attorney Timothy Cruz’s Office took Albert Shimkus, age 24 of Carver, into custody in connection with the stabbing incident that occurred on Sunday March 27, 2010.”

The violent incident on Center Street sent two people to the hospital Sunday morning. Police say one of the victims, a woman, was taken to Jordan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The other victim, a man, is listed in critical condition at Boston Medical Center. The names of the victims are not being released at this time.

There was a report late Sunday afternoon that the weapon used was a hatchet, and that the dispute was between a boyfriend and girlfriend.

Police said Shimkus was first a person of interest, and then was located Monday morning at his home on Center Street in Carver.

“He was interviewed by State Police Detectives, Sgt. Marc Duphily and Officer Derrick Ostiguy. After being interviewed, Shimkus was taken into custody and booked at the Carver Police Station for Attempted Murder and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon,” according to the press release.

He is being held without bail at the Plymouth County House of Correction.

Carver Police Chief Michael Miksch in a statement said, “The cooperation between the various agencies led to a quick resolution to this incident. The support of Sheriff McDonald and District Attorney Cruz has been invaluable in this investigation.”
