High School Sports: Mansfield 48, BC High 32 (Div 1 south semi final)

Boys Basketball: This was a hard fought defensive struggle last night for both teams as it was a low scoring game which was dominated by both teams’ defenses.  The Mansfield Hornets who were the top seed in the tournament and also hold the top spot in the WATD Johnston poll were able to outlast the valiant team from BC High.  The Hornets were able to keep the offense of the Eagles in check last night by forcing the Eagles into making too many costly mistakes throughout the game which came back and haunted the Eagles in the end.  BC High trough out the year was able to use its size to overpower teams but when it came to this game the tables were turned and it seemed all the loose balls and rebounds were being snatched up by the Mansfield Hornets.   BC High guard Bryan Hurley was held to just a 5-19 shooting night (0-4 from 3pts), this was a hard thing for the Eagles to overcome.   The Mansfield Hornets were paced by the scoring of Michael Lofton who on this night scored 17pts and also brought down 16 rebounds.   Mansfield will be making its second straight trip to the Division 1 south sectional finals this weekend.
