A level three sex offender was arrested at the Independence Mall in Kingston on Tuesday night for wearing an indecent outfit and harassing employees.

Police say 57-year-old John Coppinger, of Mattapoisett, was arrested at the mall after several different Target store employes told police the man asked permission to wear “shorts” in the store; the “shorts” were skintight and transparent. Coppinger reportedly also walked in the women’s clothing department and the women’s restroom in the shorts.

Coppinger, of Mattapoisett, has had numerous encounters with law enforcement over the past decade, including last year when police say he tried to print nude pictures of himself at a Holbrook drugstore.  He is currently on probation on charges out of Brockton Superior Court.

Police reported that when they arrested him they found numerous articles in his car, including men and women’s underwear, binoculars, rope, sex toys and naked pictures of himself.

Coppinger was arraigned Wednesday in Plymouth District Court on charges of open and gross lewdness, disorderly conduct, and accosting and annoying a person of the opposite sex. He’s currently being held on $100,000 bail.
