Bridgewater: Chase suspsect arraigned, held on 50k bail

A man who led state police on a dramatic high speed police chase last week is being ordered held on $50,000 cash bail after he was arraigned Monday in Dorchester District Court on several charges, including resisting arrest.

When officers in Boston tried to pull over 26-year-old William Monopoli of Buzzards Bay on Friday, he fled in a pick-up truck. Officers chased Monopoli at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour down 93 south, and then to 24 south, before he pulled off the highway onto 106 South in West Bridgewater, where he crashed the truck and fled on foot. Monopoli was then tackled by a State Police K9.  State Police say Monopoli was high on heroin at the time of the chase.

Police say Monopoli was wanted for violating probation after an armed robbery conviction.
