Hingham: State police seize more than 13 pounds of what they believe is marijuana

State Police arrested two men in Hingham early Thursday morning and seized what they believe is a haul of more than 13 pounds of marijuana.

At about 3 a.m. State Police were on patrol on Route 3 South in Hingham and spotted a taxi cab with a defective license plate light, which then changed lanes without signaling.

When they stopped the taxi, they found two passengers in the backseat who said they were travelling from South Station to Plymouth. Police say they detected the smell of burning marijuana and the men were acting nervous.

When they searched the truck, police found a large suitcase containing 13 1/2 pounds of “green vegetable matter”, they believe to be marijuana.

Police arrested 23-year-old Christopher Barnes of East Falmouth and 27-year-old Charles Timber of Watertown. The pair was expected to be arraigned in Hingham District court on Thursday.
