State Police are confirming at least one person has died after a motor vehicle crash on Route 3 South just north of Exit 3.
“Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kevin Brito indicates that a 2001 GMC Sierra pick-up operated by a 49-year-old New Bedford man, was traveling southbound when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the center median,” according to a release from the Massachusetts State Police. “The vehicle struck several trees, rolled over, and came to rest on the driver’s side.”
Authorities say the driver was not wearing a seat belt. Troopers are investigating excessive speed and mechanical problems as a possible factor in the crash.
Police say troopers from the Bourne Barracks were assisted at the scene by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section and Plymouth County State Police Detective Unit.
The crash, just before 2:30 p.m., involving a truck that rolled over, limited traffic flow in the area. The breakdown lane was the only lane available to traffic.
