A high-speed police chase began in the Boston area and wound down Route 24 Friday afternoon, and ended in West Bridgewater with an armed robbery suspect in custody.
Around 2 p.m. Friday State Police pursued 26-year-old William Monopoli, of Massachusetts Ave., Boston, a suspect wanted by Boston police on numerous warrants for armed robbery.
Monopoli was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger down Route 93 South and refused to stop for police.
The chase continued down Route 93 and 95 onto Route 24 southbound, and through Brockton at speeds over 100 mph. Monopoli was reportedly swerving all over the road and strike at least one vehicle, while numerous police cruisers followed behind and a police helicopter pursued overhead.
Police deployed stop sticks and the Monopoli’s car crashed in West Bridgewater at exit 16b, Route 106. Monopoli then attempted to flee, and police canines were brought in and tracked him to the West Bridgewater Park-and-Ride, where he was arrested.
State Police at the Middleboro barracks said there were no injuries reported.
In addition to the armed robbery charges, Monopoli will face additional charges relating to the car chase.
