Plymouth Finance Director Lynn Barrett gave the Board of Selectmen an update on the audit for 2010. The audit was done by the firm of Powers and Sullivan and they gave Barrett the equivalent of a gold star for implementing proper policies and procedures.

Barrett talked about one of the changes she made shortly after becoming Finance Director in late 2007:

“When I walked in the door we had a significant deficiency in our management report, and what that means is something that’s really, really bad. And we weren’t reconciling our cash in accordance with guidelines that would meet standards. What we did was we implemented procedures right away,” said Barrett.

Auditors combed through details of the 2010 budget before giving a good opinion of it to the Board.

“They look at the budget which is approximately $153 million, but then they look at all of our grants and revolving accounts—everything that we receive and we spend,” said Barrett.

The next meeting of the Board of Selectmen is June 21st.
