Middleboro: Truck crash closes Route 44 West

Route 44 Westbound in Middleboro was shut down at Route 58 all Friday day a truck crash Friday morning. Officials said they expected it would be shut down until at least 8:00 p.m.

Officer Rullo from the Middleboro Police Department said the crash happened at 9:24 a.m.

“A rental truck was travelling westbound on Route 44, and in the area of Carmel Street the truck veered into the guardrail. He took approximately 500 feet of guardrail down and ruptured his gas tank, and I think there was about 40 gallons of diesel fuel that was spilled,” said Rullo.

The Department of Environmental protection was called to the scene, and to clean up the fuel and  Commercial Vehicle Enforcement was called into examine the vehicle.

The driver of the truck, 23-year-old Pedro Johnson of New Bedford, was cited for failure to use care and caution.
