One is person dead, and another in the hospital, after police say a bicyclist was struck on Cherry Street in Plymouth on Wednesday afternoon.
Plymouth police have identified the victim as 29-year-old Michael Allington of 45 Cherry Street.
Police say Allington was riding his bike on Cherry Street just past 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, when he was struck by a gray Toyota Camry.
The driver of the car is identified as a 25-year-old woman from Carver.
Plymouth Police Captain John Rogers says there will be no charges filed against the driver– he said the bike pulled out of a blind spot and the crash was simply a tragic accident.
A neighbor spoke with WATD’s Steven Dodrill at the scene, and said that she heard a loud bang and screaming, and ran outside and spotted the victim lying next to a maroon mountain bike.
The neighbor lives right in front of where the crash happened and says she dialed police, and then began to comfort the driver, who was later taken to the hospital to be checked out.
She says the victim may have suffered a head injury, and pointed out that the windshield of the Toyota was cracked, and there was a puddle of blood on the side of the road.
The neighbor said she is surprised that something like this hadn’t happened before, because traffic on the street is very dangerous. She noted that there is a lot of bicycle traffic on Cherry Street.
Cherry Street was shut down in the area of Standish Ave. for much of Wednesday afternoon and night while police conducted their investigation.
