South Shore: Power outages pile up on hot day

Towns all across the South Shore are reporting power outages Friday afternoon.

Reports of power outages in parts of Marshfield. A call to NStar went unanswered Friday afternoon. Police say they have no timetable for restoration, but say most of the outages are centered around Island Street near ‘The Esplanade’ in Brant Rock.

Hingham Police report that half of the town is without power. As of 5 p.m. officers reported most of the the north side of town was without power. Officials had no estimate for when power would be restored.

National Grid’s website reported about a 100 customers without power in the Weymouth/Quincy area. Officials say restoration was expected right around 5:45pm.

The utlity website reports scattered outages, in Bridgewater and in North Pembroke carrying over to portions of Hanover.

The outages come as a heat wave has blanketed the state. Temperatures have soared into the upper 90′s to low 100′s.

Some area towns have set up “cooling centers” in various public buildings allowing residents to beat the heat. Those towns include: Marshfield, Plymouth, Norwell, Hingham, and Whitman.
