Authorities have arrested a Brockton man in connection with a murder of a 19-year-old man in the city, after he contacted police Monday morning and said he wanted to turn himself in.
In a statement, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said that 23-year-old Drew Beck of 150 Belmont West, apartment #10, was arrested Monday morning and was expected to be arraigned on a charge of murder, after he allegedly shot and killed 19-year-old James Ortiz outside Bridgeway Liquors in Brockton on August 12.
Authorities had issued an arrested warrant for the suspect and detectives searched for him all last week, until he contacted police himself on Monday morning. He was arrested without incident.
Authorities say the victim was found by police lying on the ground in the parking lot of the liquor store on Howard Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
