Massachusetts: Chesney reschedules show because of Irene

Country music star Kenny Chesney is moving a scheduled Massachusetts concert up two days because of the threat of Hurricane Irene.

Chesney’s show originally scheduled for Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough will now be held on Friday.

Forecasters say Irene is likely to strike Massachusetts on Sunday.

A spokesman for the state emergency management agency said Tuesday that officials are already taking the threat “very seriously.”

State officials have been spending the week on the phone with officials in other New England states, FEMA and the National Weather Service to make sure the region is fully prepared. That includes ensuring that communications systems are working and there are enough sandbags.

Even if Irene stays off shore, it is still expected to bring high winds and heavy rain.
