Plymouth: Planning board frowns on Strategic Planning Council idea

The Plymouth Planning Board discussed the proposal of the Charter Review Committee to establish, by charter, a Strategic Planning Council. The purpose of the council is to promote and ensure communication and collaboration among town boards and departments.

The Chair of the Charter Review Committee, Paul Lusczc, assured the Board that the Council would have no regulatory authority and is not meant to burden any petitioner. Although there was a lengthy discussion and much mention of good intentions, Lusczc got the message:

“They absolutely do not want another entity—absolutely not. When you don’t want a group to get together to talk about an issue –all you have to say is another layer of government and it’s the kiss of death.”

Perhaps– but Planning Board Chair Marc Garret agreed with the need to foster communication between town boards and said it could be accomplished through changes in the Charter language.

The Board voted to explore this further with the Charter Review Committee and will join their meeting on Wednesday morning, August 24th at 7:30.
