Wareham: Missing selectman baffles officials

A Wareham selectman has apparently moved to Florida without resigning or telling any other town officials he was leaving.

The town clerk says as of Wednesday afternoon she had not received any sort of resignation letter from Selectman J. Michael Schneider, who won a seat on the board in April.

Board member Cara Winslow tells The Standard-Times  she has tried unsuccessfully to reach Schneider and had “no idea” of his whereabouts.

Winslow says she hasn’t seen Schneider since Aug. 2 and she’s concerned. But at the same time she says he has the obligation to let the community know whether he plans to continue his official duties.

Schneider’s son says his father is fine and in Florida. A neighbor says he took a job there and had to move immediately.
