Abington: Plymouth County Charter Commission form committees to revamp charter

The Plymouth County Charter Commission disbanded old committees and formed new ones to craft a special charter, when they met at Abington town hall Tuesday night.

Charter Commission Chairman Charles Markum said 4 different committees will work to craft the new proposal in 4 different areas.

“One committee will focus on government structure – what the legislative and executive branch will look like – a committee to look at the finances of a proposed charter, a committee to look at programming what the new Plymouth County should do or not do and finally a committee to look at planning in Plymouth County,” said Markum.

The process will also be moving at an accelerated pace. Markum said, “It’s a pretty aggressive schedule, especially with the holidays coming up, but the committees are trying to get two meetings in a piece, then come back with recommendations for the full charter commission by the first Tuesday of December.”

That meeting is scheduled for December 6 at Hanover town hall.
