Bridgewater: BSU student seriously injured after being hit by vehicle

A Bridgewater State University student was transported to the hospital with serious head and back injuries after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the road in Bridgewater Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called to the 80 Plymouth Street, by the Bridgewater State University and a MBTA railroad crossing, at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.

The victim, 21-year-old Jennifer Reno, was transported by med-flight helicopter to Boston Medical Center.

Police say that 37-year-old Michelle Pelser of Bridgewater, was driving east on Plymouth in her Chevy Tahoe when she struck Reno as she was walking in the crosswalk. Reno was reportedly struck by the passenger-side of the vehicle and thrown approximately 15-20 feet.

Police say that speed does not appear to be a factor, and witnesses have said the sun may have played a role in the incident.

The Massachusetts State Police Accident reconstruction unit was called to the scene. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time, and the incident is still under investigation.
