Cohasset: Selectmen endorse town meeting articles for municipal solar arrays – financial management review

Cohasset Selectmen voted to endorse a Special Town Meeting warrant article by the Alternative Energy Committee, that would lease the Middle-High School roof and the towns capped land fill, so a developer can install solar panels to provide electricity to municipal buildings.

Cohasset Alternative Energy Committee member Mike Bliss told selectmen, “The goal is to go out to bid and find the most experienced developer to install and maintain the solar arrays. They would lease the roof and land from the town for $1.00 a year – which could be from 20 to 25 years. That would save electricity costs to the town.”

Selectmen also voted in favor of an article to request that the state Department of Revenue conduct a financial review of Cohasset.

Town Manager Michael Coughlin explained the proposal and said, “They will be assessing what the town is doing immediately – what works and what shouldn’t work. I think they might be able to facilitate certain discussions. We’re also free to accept or reject anything that they recommend.”

Cohasset Special Town Meeting is scheduled for December 5.
