Army officials have released the name of the suspect in the slaying of a Massachusetts soldier in Iraq.
Authorities at Fort Hood, Texas say Sgt. Brent McBride faces a hearing within days to determine what charges he will face in the death of Sgt Matthew Gallagher of Falmouth.
Gallagher, a Weymouth native who served with the 1st Cavalry, died on June 26 in Iraq, a week before his 23rd birthday.
His family at first thought he had been killed in combat, then were told by the Pentagon that he had died of non-combat related injuries. Gallagher’s mother was told earlier this month that her son’s death was ruled a homicide.
A motive has not been disclosed.
Gallagher’s wife says her husband and McBride were roommates.
It’s not clear if McBride has a lawyer.
