Santa’s elves come in many different forms–and on Tuesday they came in the form of Halifax firefighters.
Captain Jeff Cuozzo says it all started at a union meeting this week, with a suggestion by Firefighter Matthew Paris. He suggested they check out a Christmas tree at the Halifax Walmart, which was covered in paper ornaments–and on each one was a request from a child for something for Christmas.
Just about the entire department showed up at the tree, and the firefighters grabbed the paper ornanments with the requests for eveything from barbie dolls to pajamas, to hats–and, they bought all of them.
Captain Cuozzo says they were excited about being able to do something like this.
“The whole idea was to put a smile on somebody’s face, and it was an amazing feeling,” said Cuzzo.
The firefighters provided roughly 40 to 45 gifts for kids from infants to about 7 or 8 years old.
