Halifax: Police searching for Pembroke man accused of hit-and-run

Halifax Police are searching for a hit and run suspect they say struck and elderly woman and then fled the scene earlier this month.

Police say that on December 2 a 76-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of a Tedeschi’s on Route 106. According to witnesses, the driver backed into the victim, then got out and after seeing she was injured, got back into his car and left the scene. The woman was taken by med-flight to a Boston Hospital with a severe head injury and a broken leg.

Police released surveillance footage of the suspect, who they have identified as 46-year-old Douglas Hassam of High Street in Pembroke. Hassam has two other arrest warrants out on him for motor-vehicle violations. He may be driving a blue/green Taurus with Massachusetts license plate 9gg470.

Anyone with information is asked to called Halifax police.
