Hingham: Suspected bank robber surrenders to police

Bank robbery suspect James Callahan

A suspect in a brazen bank robbery in Hingham decided to turn himself in one week after the heist.

Authorities say James Callahan of South Boston held up the Hingham Institution for Savings Bank on Whiting St. on December 3rd, and got away with $5,000 which will probably never be recovered.

Police told WATD that Callahan decided to surrender Saturday night after they turned up the heat on him by releasing surveillance pictures to the media.

Callahan is charged with larceny, armed robbery, and assault with a dangerous weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in Hingham District Court on Monday.
