Firefighters saved a home in Whitman on Christmas night.

Fire Chief Tim Grenno says the fire inside a two and a half story home, at 770 Plymouth Street broke out in the basement, and then extended into the electrical service, and onto the outside of the home.

The homeowner stumbled upon the fire, after checking out what he thought was a tripped breaker.

Grenno credits firefighters from Whitman, East Bridgewater and Abington for saving many of the family’s Christmas presents, and the home itself.

Grenno estimates the fire caused close to 100 thousand dollars in damage.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
