Hingham Police say a crash at around 10:15 p.m. Thursday claimed the life of a Hull man who was driving to South Shore Hospital to seek medical treatment.
“Police are investigating a fatal crash that occured on North Street that may have been caused by a medical condition,” said Hingham Police Sgt. Steven Dearth in a press release on Friday afternoon. “An investigation showed a 2004 Jeep Wrangler was traveling south on North Street, crossed completely into the oncoming lane, and struck a 2006 Cadillac STS head-on.”
A witness to the crash broke the window of the Jeep, pulled the driver out and began CPR.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as 51-year-old Mark Angeramo of 45 Bay Street Apartment 1 in Hull, was driving himself from his home to South Shore Hospital for emergency treatment. Angeramo was transported to the South Shore Hospital after the crash, but did not survive.
The driver of the Cadillac identified as Paul Murphy of Hingham was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt.
“The crash is being investigated by crash reconstructionists from the Hingham Police Department with assistance from the Weymouth Police Department,” said Dearth in the press release. “Speed, alcohol, and weather conditions do not appear to be factors in this crash; a medical condition appears to be the primary cause.”
