Abington: MVA with oil truck sends multiple victims to the hospital, closes road

A motor vehicle crash involving an oil truck sent four people to the hospital and shut down the road in Abington on Friday.

Emergency crews from multiple towns responded to the crash, which occurred between an oil truck and small SUV at around 12:10 p.m. Friday at Adams Street (Route 58) and Oak Street.

Abington Fire Captain Ronald Howe says the driver of the SUV was taken to a trauma center in Boston by ambulance, and the driver of the oil truck was also taken to the hospital–no word on the extent of the injuries of either driver at this time. Two children in the SUV were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Capt. Howe said that no oil leaked from the truck, but a Hazmat response team was called in to the scene as a precaution. The road had to be shut down while the Department of Environmental Protection supervised the removal of the truck, which was not driveable.

Howe says he’s not aware of any charges filed against either driver at this time.
