Cohasset: New town manager’s days may be numbered

He’s been on the job barely six months, but Cohasset selectmen may soon be looking for a new town manager.

Current manager Michael Coughlin says selectmen recently met in executive session for about two hours to discuss his contract, and added, he also sat down with the board’s chairman and vice chairman and the town’s attorney.

Cohasset selectmen have another closed-door session with Coughlin on Monday, and he’s asking that it be an open meeting.

When he took over last August, selectmen said they were looking for a “take-charge’’ manager after an independent audit revealed serious problems in Cohasset’s financial record-keeping.

Those problems led to large deficits in the Water Department and the resignations of the town manager and finance director.

Though town employees have praised Coughlin’s assertive style, it has led to conflict with some of the volunteer boards in town, especially the water commissioners.
