UPDATE: Serious crash involving school bus shuts down Lake Street, severely injures 4 students

A serious crash around 7:15 a.m. involving a school bus and a red BMW has shut down Lake Street, while authorities continue to investigate the crash.

Kingston Police Chief Joseph Rebello says 5 people were injured in the crash that happened on Lake Street near the intersection of Chipman Way.

Rebello says four Silver Lake students riding in a red BMW and a driver of the school bus were injured.

Two med-flight helicopters landed at the Silver Lake Regional high school and flew two victims to the Boston Medical Center. One med-flight helicopter transported a victim from the South Shore Hospital to a Boston hospital also.

Rebello says no students were on the bus, which appeared to be travelling away from the high school.

Silver Lake Principal Richard Kelly says the the four students, three girls and a boy, are great kids and good students.

“We’re just hoping and praying that they are ok,” said Kelly.

Kelly notes that the Junior Prom is scheduled for tonight at Lombardo’s in Randolph and the school is in the process of trying to decide how they will handle that.
