Plymouth: Town meeting underway

Plymouth Town Meeting began on Saturday with town meeting members rejecting a proposal to pay $1 million for some land next to the police station.

Plymouth Police Chief Michael Botieri had asked voters to approve the money so the land could be bought from the county.

County Treasurer Tom O’Brien and Selectmen Chairman Bill Hallisey also had supported the land purchase.

But voters apparently felt the price was too high and shot down the article.

Town meeting members did approve a request to increase from $250 to $500, the allowance to survivors of deceased members of the state teachers’ and state employees’ retirement system.

Plymouth Town Meeting continues Monday night.
