A Rhode Island man has been indicted for allegedly murdering a brother and sister in their Brockton apartment in January, 2010.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz says 27-year-old John Monteiro has been charged with the murders of Maria and Jorge DePina inside their 52 Nilsson Street apartment.
Cruz says Maria and Jorge DePina were shot in the head inside their Nilsson Street apartment by Monteiro, who allegedly forced his way into the DePina’s home.
Monteiro is expected to be arraigned later this month; but as for his status now, Monteiro is being held without bail at the Plymouth County House of Corrections on the separate indictment charging him with the murder of Gregory Goncalves on Hunt Street in Brockton in July 2007. Cruz says Monteiro, who was free after serving time prior, wasn’t tied to that 2007 Goncalves murder, until after the 2010 Depina shooting.
Cruz says Monteiro later sold the firearm used in the murder of the DePina’s. That weapon has been recovered, examined, and tested for evidence and DNA.
Monteiro is expected to be arraigned later this month.
