On Monday, Hingham police will be asking Town Meeting voters to get their community in line with others on the South Shore, in an effort to end a rash of house breaks in the region.
Residents will have the chance to approve a new by-law requiring jewelers and pawn shops to use a special electronic notification system to alert police the same day they buy second-hand valuables.
The proposed by-law would also double the current 15-day waiting period before jewelers and pawn shop owners can sell precious second-hand items or melt them down.
