Norwell: Road to Responsibility to build Prospect Street group home

Norwell selectmen voted Wednesday night to award a bid to Road to Responsibility Incorporated, to build a 5 bedroom group home on town owned land on Prospect Street, near the Hingham line.

Both group home residents and the town will benefit from the construction.

Town administrator Jim Boudreau said each bedroom will be added to Norwell’s affordable housing stock.

“People say, ‘why is a group home considered affordable housing?’ In the calculation of affordable housing units, each bedroom in a group home actually counts as a unit. So, one home with 5 bedrooms actually counts as 5 affordable units for the town. There are several in town and most people have no idea where they are,” Boudreau said.
