Celtics: Celtics beat Atlanta 87-80, tie series 1-1

Paul Pierce led the Boston Celtics past the Atlanta Hawks 87-80 last night in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Pierce scored 36 points and Boston wiped out Atlanta’s 11-point lead in the second half even without Rajon Rondo.

Celtics guard Ray Allen missed another playoff game because of an ailing right ankle. Coach Doc Rivers was hoping to get Allen back for last night’s Game 2 against the Atlanta Hawks. The 36-year-old had looked much better during an off day, but was hobbling again yesterday.

The series is tied 1-1. Game 3 is Friday night in Boston.
