Cohasset: Neighbors lash out against Toll Brothers housing proposal

Neighbors concerned about the Toll Brothers Home Builders housing proposal on Beechwood Street took their case before the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night.

About 50 neighbors have signed a petition against the proposal to build 41 single family houses at the former Cedarmere site.

Neighbor Nick Staszko is worried about increased traffic from the project at the intersection of Route 3A and Beechwood Street, especially given a history of fatalities there and where 29 accidents have occurred over the last three years.

“In terms of danger, that intersection has had a history of three fatalities to date. It is ranked the most dangerous set of lights intersection in Cohasset. Our thought on that is that anything Toll Brothers can do to reduce the amount of traffic that has to use that intersection by having a Route 3A access and a right turn only, would only help alleviate the amount of traffic at that intersection”, Staszko told selectmen.

Neighbors are also concerned about water runoff from the project.

Selectmen will request that the Planning Board meet with a member of the Board of Selectmen, to discuss these concerns.
