Hingham: South Shore man arrested for drunk driving after hitting vehicle with children inside

A Weymouth man facing several charges including third-offense drunk driving is scheduled to return to court for a dangerousness hearing on Tuesday.

Arthur Sullivan was arrested in Hingham on Thursday night, after he apparently rear-ended a minivan with three children inside, and nearly crashed head-on into another car.

No injuries were reported.

Police say Sullivan got out of his vehicle after hitting the minivan, telling the driver they needed to exchange papers, then got back in his car, and sped off.

Officers who stopped Sullivan at the entrance to the campground at Wompatuck State Park said they found open and empty alcohol containers as well as illegal prescription drugs in his vehicle.

Police also said Sullivan’s ignition interlock device had been tampered with, a felony which alone carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.

Sullivan was ordered held without bail.
