Plymouth: Finance Committee gets member shake-up

Plymouth Town Moderator Steven Triffletti named six members to the Finance Committee, but there are those who may think that the story actually is in who did—and did not get reappointed.

Usually five appointments are made each year, but because of a resignation the number rose to six appointments for the term beginning July 1st. Town Moderator Steven Triffletti:

“I appointed Robert Nassau, who is currently the chair of the Advisory and Finance Committee and I also re-appointed Vice Chair John Moody.”

Even though Triffletti had previously told Robert Nassau he would not be reappointed, he decided on Nassau and Moody because they represented the leadership of the committee. However, reorganization takes place at FinCom’s July meeting.

FinCom member Linda Benezra, who has served both as chair and vice chair and long serving member Pat Whalen requested reappointment, but they were denied:

“They were not reappointed in order that we would have some new appointees along with some reappointments of experienced leadership on the Advisory and Finance Committee.”

Linda Benezra and Pat Whalen’s leadership resulted in a successful Home Rule petition—that makes elected officials receiving a stipend ineligible for town-paid health insurance benefits. Triffletti is one of those officials.
