Wareham: Wrong way accident kills local man

Authorities are investigating a head-on crash that killed a Wareham man over the weekend.

State police say 26-year-old Phendy Pamphile of Brockton was heading the wrong way on 495 North in Wareham at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, striking a car driven by 43-year-old Christopher Elicier.

Elicier was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crews had to use the Jaws of Life to get Pamphile out of his vehicle.

He was flown to Rhode Island Hospital with a serious leg injury, and may face charges once authorities determine why he was on the wrong side of the highway.
