Whitman voters approved a $440,160 Proposition 2 1/2 override in a Special Town Election on Saturday.
The vote was 1,066-720.
The override, coupled with one approved recently in Hanson, will help fund Regional School District operations for the fiscal year which starts next month, though Whitman School Committee Chairman Bob Hayes told WATD there will still be a $500,000 shortfall, so cuts will still have to be made.
The Whitman-Hanson Regional School Committee is proposing an operating budget of $43.9 million for next year, an increase of about $800,000 from this year’s budget figure.
The owner of the average single-family home in Whitman will pay an additional $88.68 a year in property taxes.
