Brockton: Officials want to return park to former glory

Brockton officials say they want to take back the city’s James Edgar Park, which has become a haven for gang violence and drug activity.

A public meeting is scheduled to get input and discuss plans for the park.

Officials are in the process of applying for state funds to rehab the park, and have already removed the hoops from the park’s basketball court, a particular trouble spot.

The meeting is the last hurdle before the Brockton Redevelopment Authority can request a state grant of up to $400,000.

The gathering, slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday, will be held at the Arnone Community Elementary School.

The grant program is highly competitive, so Brockton officials are hoping the money will also be available set up more police patrols.
