Olympics: U.S. rowing team including New Englanders qualifies for first in lightweight fours competition in London

LONDON (AP) — A U.S. rowing team including New Englanders William Newell and Nicholas la Cava qualified first in their group yesterday in the lightweight fours competition at the London Olympics. Massachusetts rower Kristin Hedstrom and partner Julie Nichols also advanced through qualifying in the women’s lightweight double sculls.
