State police say a 4-year-old child and a woman suffered life-threatening injuries when a car rolled over inside the Central Artery tunnel early Sunday morning. Police say the two-car crash occurred at 12:24 a.m. Sunday in the Tip O’Neill Tunnel.  Both the girl and woman were thrown from the vehicle in the crash. A 1997 Toyota 4 Runner, driven by 26 year old Axel Delgado, of Malden was in one middle travel lane when 29 year old Fatima Terif, of East Boston, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, moved toward the same lane. Delgado swerved to avoid a collision and rolled over. Police said his vehicle was carrying six passengers when the crash occurred. A 4-year-old girl and a 24-year-old woman, both of Malden, were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital just after midnight where they were listed in critical condition.

Police said Terif was issued a citation for marked lanes violation.  Delago was also cited for operating with a suspended license and a child passenger seatbelt violation. Massachusetts law requires that any child under age 8 who is less than 80 pounds be restrained in a car seat. All of the other occupants of the two vehicles were taken to Boston hospitals with minor injuries and later released.
