FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett are competing for playing time behind New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Mallett had better numbers than Hoyer in the Patriots Monday night preseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. But both were burdened by inconsistent protection.
