Weymouth: Fore River Bridge climber causes large rescue response

A 23-year-old man who climbed to the top of the Fore River Bridge early Saturday to take photographs was eventually located and talked into coming down. The potential emergency did not end before a half dozen police, fire and marine units had responded to the scene.  Fire officials in Weymouth say that the man, possibly a college student, said he was trying to take photographs “of the sunset” at 1 a.m. and appeared confused. He eventually came back down and the crisis ended by 4:30 a.m. The man was not found to be suicidal, but when the call first came in, officials did not know that. He was seen climbing up the temporary bridge on the Weymouth side shortly after 1 a.m. by the bridge operator, who called Weymouth police. A Weymouth ladder truck went to the scene with lights to illuminate the bridge, but authorities say the climber was not immediately visible. Quincy police and fire units, the State Police, the Norfolk County Technical Rescue Team and harbormasters from Quincy and Weymouth also responded.  Police have not yet released the identity of the man or if any charges are pending
