Brockton: Rocky Marciano statue officially unveiled

Years of planning and hard work finally paid off in Brockton with the dedication of the statue of native son Rocky Marciano outside the high school.

The unveiling Sunday afternoon coincided with the 60 year anniversary of Marciano’s win over Jersey Joe Walcott to become world heavyweight champ.

Days later, Marciano rode through downtown Brockton, with tens-of-thousands of fans filling the streets.

Marciano died in a 1969 plane crash just one day before his 46th birthday.
