Hanson: Interim police chief hired while Chief Savage is on paid leave

Hanson Selectmen have decided that a temporary police chief will fill the shoes of Ed Savage while Savage is on paid administrative leave for personnel issues.

Town Administrator Rene Read says Artie Parker joined the Hanson Police Department Friday morning, “We expect that Artie will be with us at least for the next few weeks and possibly a month.”

Read explains that Parker has never worked for the Town of Hanson and was actually taken out of retirement to act as the interim police chief,  “Artie was formerly the police chief in Carver a position from which he retired a couple years ago and prior to that he worked for the Town of Wellfleet in the police department as well.”

Police Chief Savage was placed on paid leave this past week by Hanson Selectmen. Read says Selectmen will continue meeting with Savage in the coming weeks to discuss his future employment.

But Read says he cannot discuss exactly why Savage was placed on leave as it is an on-going personnel matter.
