Middleboro: Selectmen seek to end dispute over holiday decorations

Monday night,  Middleboro selectmen are hope to end a nearly year-long dispute over holiday decorations.

At issue are decorations on a tree in Veteran’s Memorial Park, dedicated to a Congressional Medal of Honor winner.

The Park Committee doesn’t want the tree lit up for the holidays, saying it diminishes the meaning of the park, but it’s willing to deliver another tree for decorating at Town Hall.

A similar offer last year was turned down.

Middleboro selectmen asay they have a problem with the committee wanting total control of the park, because it was built on town-owned land with money raised through donations.

The board chair says he intends to get the matter at Monday’s meeting, before the start of the holiday season.
