Pembroke: Missing teen found after late-night crash that may have involved alcohol

A Pembroke teen has been found safe after he went missing for most of the day Saturday, following a crash in town the previous night.

17-year-old Ryan Chapman and a friend were involved in a single-car accident that occurred around 1 a.m. Saturday, but police told WATD they have not ruled out alcohol as a factor.

The friend made it home safely, but Chapman disappeared after he drove his father’s pickup truck into a ditch near the Hobomock Arena.

Chapman’s parents were contacted by Pembroke police after they located the vehicle and the teen’s cell phone a few yards away from the crash.

Matt McNeilly, a longtime neighbor of Chapman’s, says he learned from another neighbor that the teen was missing.

He says that he and his wife joined the search, which was conducted around the Pembroke High School, the recycling center and the ice skating rink.

The search for Chapman was called off  late Saturday afternoon, when he finally called his mother from the Walmart in Halifax, where police said he had walked.

The investigation is continuing.
