Brockton: Police chase ends with fatal multiple-vehicle crash

Eight-car crash in Brockton, MA

A Brockton woman has been killed and several people were injured in a crash that involved eight vehicles on Friday evening.  Forty-nine year old Maryanne Kotsiopoulos died from her injuries, after her vehicle was involved in a multi-car crash that was caused by a vehicle trying to elude police.

Brockton Police were attempting stop 27 year old Antwoin Moore, of Brockton for a narcotics violation when the chase began. Police pursued Moore for several blocks, before the suspect’s car collided with Kotsiopoulos’ green Jaguar at the intersection of Centre and Quincy Streets. The initial collision propelled the first victim’s car into half dozen other vehicles that were waiting at the traffic light on Quincy Street.

Witnesses say Moore immediately exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but police were able to quickly apprehend him.  Six people were transported by ambulance to the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital and two were taken to the Good Samaritan Medical Center.

Meanwhile police closed off Quincy Street for nearly five hours, while the State Police Reconstruction team and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office conducted an investigation at the scene. Moore has been charged with manslaughter, assault with a dangerous weapon, operating to endanger and other motor vehicle violations. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court.
