Plymouth, England: Namesake town welcomes Massachusetts officials

The Lord Mayor of Plymouth, England has welcomed Town Manager Melissa Arrighi, Selectman Chair Matt Muratore, Selectman Belinda Brewster and other town officials from America’s Home Town.

In Plymouth, England on Thursday, the Royal Western Yacht Club, was the scene of a welcoming lunch for town officials and business leaders from Plymouth, Massachusetts. Lord Mayor Michael Wright called it a great honor:

“We are very proud and honored to have you here because you’re part of our history. We always regard that as our American cousins.”

And the Leader of the City Council, Tudor Evans, spoke of shared history:

“We really, really, are excited about the opportunity to share in the 2020 commemorations. We, who from where you sailed on the Mayflower all those years ago, you know, we’re very proud of that link–very proud of it–and we want to celebrate it and commemorate it. And this visit here is just the start of a journey that we’re going to make over the next eight years.”

One of the tourist attractions on Plymouth’s waterfront is a stone archway leading to the steps from which the Pilgrims embarked in 1620.
