Red Sox: John Farrell signed as team manager

Boston (AP)–The Red Sox have agreed to terms with John Farrell on a three-year deal to leave Toronto to take over as manager in Boston.

The Red Sox will send infielder Mike Aviles to the Blue Jays as compensation, according to a baseball official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced.

The official says the announcement is being held up by the unusual logistics of hiring a manager under contract with another team.

Farrell had one year remaining on his contract with Toronto, where he went 154-170 over the past two seasons.
